There’s a new FSA ID system.
Don’t delay, act now!
New to the financial aid process is a change to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Pin authorization system. On May 11, 2015, the US Department of Education eliminated the Federal Student Aid (FSA) Pin login system and replaced it with a new FSA ID.
The new system confirms your identity and is designed for better security and ease of use. Its primary function provides for electronic signatures and importing your tax information from the IRS website.
To register for your FSA ID, go to the fafsa.gov website to create your new login and password.
For those of you who have used a Pin number in the past, you will have the opportunity to link your information to your new FSA ID. This will save you time and delays in registering your FSA ID.
One key point; when applying for your FSA ID your information is verified by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for accuracy. This may delay the registration of your FSA ID for up to 3 days. Further delays might occur if the SSA has wrong information regarding your name, social security number, or date of birth.
For students and parents who apply for financial aid using the FAFSA form or take out federal loans, we recommend that you change to the new login system immediately to help avoid any potential delays.
If you are planning to take out any federal loans to pay for the 2015/16 academic year, you will need a FSA ID. This impacts the federal subsidized or unsubsidized student loans as well as the federal parent plus loans. So act now!!
