Trustees of the University of Massachusetts voted Friday (July 13, 2018) to increase tuition for in-state undergraduates by 2.5 percent for the academic year that starts in the fall 2018.
In-state Student tuitions per student for 2018-2019
UMass Amherst – increase $376 to a total of $15,406
UMass Dartmouth – increase $329 for a total of $13,496.
’’ Rob Manning, the chairman of the system’s board of trustees, said in a statement announcing the increase. “This is a moderate increase that will ensure UMass continues to deliver a world-class education at an affordable cost.’’
Out of state tuitions per student for 2018-2019 will go up by 3% with an average increase of $938, to a full tuition cost of $32,200 on average.
The UMass system also plans to increase the cost of fees and room and board (direct costs) at it’s campuses. That will put the cost of attendance for in-state students at the flagship Amherst campus at $28,513 this fall, up from $27,669 last year. Of particular note for most students is the addition of indirect costs(books, labs, travel etc.) that can amount to $2,000 to $3,000 each year.
The increases are intended to be competitive with the state universities of Rhode Island and Maine.
